All About Climbing Hydrangeas, Honeysuckle & Trumpet Vines

Japanese climbing hydrangeas are a very effective, beautiful way to disguise a fence or other sturdy structure around your yard.  They are slow to start but once established are quite splendid.  They can grow very large so you may want to prune to keep it under control.  Climbing hydrangeas produce lacy flowers in early to mid summer & have a lovely light scent.  These climbing vines will take your breath away.

Honeysuckle 

Honeysuckles are hardy, handsome and a hummingbird’s haven.  Their trumpet shaped flowers range in shades from white to coral to red and lined with yellow to gold.  They are a vigorous grower, non-invasive and so sweetly scented that pollinators can not resist.

Trumpet Vine

Trumpet Vines are also known as hummingbird vines as they are beloved by the tiny, feathered pollinators. Blooming on the trumpet vine plant takes place throughout summer and into fall, though blooming may be limited for those planted in shady locations. Following its flowering, trumpet vines produce attractive bean-like seedpods. A very impressive large vine & prolific producer of deep trumpet shaped flowers that range from yellow to red.

 

Hydrangea anomala

A true climber, this vine clings by suckers to move up a vertical structure. White lace cap flowers in mid summer. Forest green heart shaped leaves.

This distinct vine produces larger flower clusters of elegant 8”-10” deep pink sepals surrounding a centre cap filled with tiny white flowers.
