A Guide to Pear Trees and Plum Trees

Pears

Biting into a juicy pear is one of life’s joys.  Now imagine you picked that delicious pear from your very own tree.  It tastes even sweeter.  Growing pears is generally even easier than growing apples as they have less pest and disease issues. Once mature, they are prolific fruit bearers and they fit into small yards quite nicely.

Plums

Plums are great fruit trees for beginners as they don’t require a lot of upkeep.  Plums can vary in size depending on the variety, from a grape to a softball.  The flavour also ranges from tart to very sweet.  All Plums are either European or Japanese.  The main differences are European Plums generally have freestone pits while the Japanese Plums have clingstone pits.  European Plums are usually sweeter and deeper in colour while their Japanese counterparts are a little more tart and quite often yellow, but you may see purple, red or pink skins.  Whichever Plum you choose, it will be a great addition.
